First Blood
First Blood centers on John Rambo, a former Green Beret and Vietnam War veteran wandering across the United States. Quiet and disciplined, Rambo carries deep psychological scars from the war and struggles to adjust to civilian life.
When he arrives in the small town of Hope, Washington, he is stopped by Sheriff Will Teasle, who distrusts outsiders and sees Rambo as a potential threat. Without committing any real crime, Rambo is forced out of town and then arrested on a minor charge. At the police station, he is mistreated by deputies. The experience triggers traumatic flashbacks to his time as a prisoner of war, where he endured brutal torture.

Overwhelmed by instinct and trauma, Rambo fights back and escapes into the nearby mountains. What follows is an intense manhunt, as local law enforcement, state police, and eventually the National Guard are called in to capture him.
Using his elite survival and combat training, Rambo evades his pursuers with precision. He sets traps, disables weapons, and outmaneuvers entire search teams—yet he avoids killing whenever possible, showing that his goal is to survive, not to take lives.
As the situation escalates, Colonel Sam Trautman, Rambo’s former commanding officer, arrives. He warns the authorities that Rambo is highly trained in guerrilla warfare and survival, capable of defeating entire units if pushed too far. Despite this, the pursuit intensifies, leading to destruction and rising tension.
Eventually, cornered and emotionally overwhelmed, Rambo returns to town. He uses controlled force to disable infrastructure and confront those who mistreated him. The conflict reaches its emotional peak when Trautman finds him and attempts to calm him down.
In a powerful breakdown, Rambo reveals the pain he has carried since the war—losing his friends, facing rejection at home, and being unable to adapt to normal life. His emotional collapse exposes the human cost of war beyond the battlefield.
Rambo ultimately surrenders peacefully, ending the conflict without further violence.
First Blood stands out as a deeply emotional action film. It explores trauma, injustice, and isolation, portraying Rambo not as a typical action hero, but as a tragic figure shaped by war and misunderstood by society.
