Rambo: First Blood Part II transforms the haunted veteran of the first film into a full-fledged action hero. Picking up where First Blood (1982) left off, John Rambo is serving time in prison for his previous rampage. He’s unexpectedly visited by his former commanding officer, Colonel Trautman, who offers him a mission that could earn his freedom — a top-secret government assignment to return to Vietnam and search for American POWs (Prisoners of War) still missing after the war.
Rambo accepts the mission under the condition that he only take photographs of the prison camps, not engage the enemy. He’s sent to the jungles of Vietnam under the supervision of Marshall Murdock, a bureaucrat who doesn’t believe POWs still exist. Upon arrival, Rambo teams up with Co Bao, a local freedom fighter who helps him navigate enemy territory.
When Rambo discovers that American prisoners are indeed being held captive, he defies orders and rescues one, hoping to expose the government’s lies. However, instead of supporting him, Murdock betrays Rambo, abandoning him in the jungle to be captured by the Vietnamese and their Soviet allies, led by the sadistic Podovsky.
After enduring brutal torture, Rambo escapes in a thrilling sequence of explosions, gunfire, and raw determination. Fueled by rage and betrayal, he launches a one-man war against both the enemy forces and those who deceived him. Using his unparalleled combat skills, he destroys the prison camp, rescues all the American POWs, and returns to confront Murdock, delivering one of Stallone’s most iconic lines:
