Tremors (1990)

Tremors is a creature-feature horror-comedy set in the isolated desert town of Perfection, Nevada. The film follows handymen Val McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward), who are fed up with their dead-end lives and plan to leave town in search of something better. However, their plans are abruptly halted when they discover a series of bizarre deaths—one man found atop a power tower, another buried alive in his yard.

Soon, the true cause becomes horrifyingly clear: massive, subterranean worm-like creatures are burrowing through the earth and attacking anything that makes vibrations on the surface. These monsters, later dubbed “Graboids,” are blind but possess incredible speed, strength, and large, snake-like tentacles used to snag their prey.

As the townspeople realize the danger, they band together, including seismology student Rhonda LeBeck (Finn Carter), who’s been studying unusual underground tremors in the area. She helps the group understand that there are at least three of the creatures, possibly more, and that traditional weapons may not be enough to stop them.

Val, Earl, and Rhonda lead the effort to keep the townspeople alive. They race to warn the survivalist couple Burt and Heather Gummer (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire), who are heavily armed and manage to kill one of the Graboids with an impressive arsenal. However, it’s clear that the creatures are learning—avoiding traps and targeting buildings by sensing vibrations.

Eventually, the survivors realize they must find a way to escape to solid rock, which the Graboids can’t penetrate. In a tense final standoff, Val uses quick thinking to lure the last Graboid over a cliff using a jackhammer and homemade explosives.
