Over the Top (1987)
Over the Top follows Lincoln Hawk, a quiet, blue-collar truck driver with a troubled past and a powerful sense of pride. Years earlier, Hawk was separated from his wife, Christina, after being deemed unfit to raise their son, Michael. As a result, Michael has been raised by Christina’s wealthy and domineering father, Jason Cutler, who despises Hawk and views him as a failure.
When Christina becomes seriously ill, she arranges for Hawk to reunite with Michael and drive him from his military academy in Colorado to California. The long road trip serves as the emotional core of the film, as father and son struggle to connect. Michael is initially resentful and distant, embarrassed by Hawk’s rough lifestyle and influenced by his grandfather’s contempt.
