Creed
Creed follows the journey of Adonis Johnson, the son of former heavyweight champion Apollo Creed. Though he never knew his father—who died before he was born—Adonis grows up determined to follow in his footsteps. Raised in comfort by Apollo’s widow, he has opportunities outside boxing, but the pull of the sport proves too strong to ignore.
Against his adoptive mother’s wishes, Adonis leaves behind a stable career to pursue boxing seriously. He travels to Philadelphia in search of Rocky Balboa, his father’s former rival and close friend. At first, Rocky refuses to train him, reluctant to return to the world of boxing. However, after seeing Adonis’s determination and recognizing Apollo’s spirit in him, Rocky agrees to become his mentor.
Training under Rocky, Adonis begins to develop his skills and identity as a fighter. He struggles not only with the physical demands of boxing but also with living up to the legacy of his father. Wanting to succeed on his own terms, he initially avoids using the Creed name, fighting instead as “Adonis Johnson.”
Outside the ring, Adonis forms a relationship with Bianca Taylor, a talented singer dealing with progressive hearing loss. Their bond grows through mutual support and shared ambition, giving Adonis emotional grounding as he navigates his new life.
As Adonis gains recognition, his true identity becomes public, bringing both opportunity and pressure. He is offered a high-profile fight against the world champion, “Pretty” Ricky Conlan, who is nearing the end of his career. The match is seen as a major challenge, with many doubting Adonis’s readiness.
At the same time, Rocky faces his own battle when he is diagnosed with cancer. Initially unwilling to undergo treatment, Rocky is inspired by Adonis’s determination and chooses to fight his illness, strengthening their bond beyond boxing.
The climactic fight against Conlan is intense and emotional. Adonis is knocked down early but refuses to quit, demonstrating the same resilience that defined both his father and Rocky. Though he ultimately loses by decision, he earns the respect of the crowd and proves he belongs among elite fighters.
Creed is a story about legacy, identity, and mentorship. It passes the torch from one generation to the next, showing that greatness is not inherited—it is earned through heart, perseverance, and the courage to define your own path.
