First Blood
First Blood follows John Rambo, a former Green Beret and Vietnam War veteran drifting across America in search of purpose. When he arrives in the small town of Hope, Washington, he is simply passing through, hoping to reconnect with an old friend. Instead, he learns that his friend has died from illness caused by wartime exposure, leaving Rambo truly alone.
Rambo’s quiet presence attracts the suspicion of Sheriff Will Teasle, a rigid lawman who distrusts outsiders. Without committing any crime, Rambo is arrested for vagrancy and taken to the local jail. There, he is harassed and mistreated by deputies. The experience triggers traumatic flashbacks to his time as a prisoner of war, where he endured torture. Overwhelmed by panic and survival instinct, Rambo fights back and escapes into the nearby mountains.
Sheriff Teasle organizes a manhunt, bringing in deputies, state police, and later the National Guard to capture Rambo. In the wilderness, Rambo uses his elite military training to survive and evade pursuit. He sets traps, disables his pursuers, and avoids killing whenever possible, showing that his goal is escape—not revenge.
As the situation escalates, Colonel Sam Trautman, Rambo’s former commanding officer, arrives to assist. Trautman warns the authorities that Rambo is highly skilled in guerrilla warfare and survival, capable of defeating entire units if pushed too far. Despite the warning, the manhunt intensifies, and tensions rise after a deputy dies in an accident during the chase.
Feeling cornered and misunderstood, Rambo returns to the town, using controlled force to disable police vehicles and infrastructure. His actions reflect frustration and desperation rather than cruelty. The conflict reaches its emotional peak when Trautman confronts Rambo inside a damaged building.

Exhausted and overwhelmed, Rambo breaks down in a powerful moment of vulnerability. He speaks about the horrors of war, the loss of his fellow soldiers, and the rejection he faced upon returning home. His emotional collapse reveals the deep psychological scars he carries.
Rambo ultimately surrenders peacefully to Trautman, ending the conflict.
First Blood is a grounded and emotional action film that explores trauma, isolation, and the struggle of veterans returning to civilian life. It presents Rambo not as a hero of violence, but as a man shaped—and damaged—by war.
