After the war, Forrest is awarded a medal of honor. He later becomes a national table tennis champion, meeting world leaders and gaining unexpected fame. Honoring his promise to Bubba, Forrest starts a shrimp business with Lieutenant Dan. Despite early struggles, their company becomes highly successful, making Forrest wealthy.
Throughout his journey, Forrest repeatedly crosses paths with Jenny, but their relationship remains complicated. Jenny’s life continues to be unstable, while Forrest’s steady kindness never changes.
In one of the film’s most iconic sequences, Forrest begins running across the country for no specific reason, inspiring people along the way. His journey symbolizes perseverance and the search for meaning, even when life seems directionless.
Eventually, Jenny returns to Forrest and reveals that she has a young son—Forrest’s child. Though Jenny is seriously ill, the two finally marry. After her death, Forrest raises their son with the same love and values his mother once gave him.
