Cliffhanger
Cliffhanger follows Gabe Walker, a skilled mountain rescue ranger in the Rocky Mountains. The film opens with a tragic accident during a high-altitude rescue. Gabe attempts to save a stranded climber, but she slips from his grasp and falls to her death. Traumatized by the incident and blaming himself, Gabe leaves the mountains behind.
Months later, Gabe reluctantly returns to visit his friend and fellow ranger, Hal Tucker. Still haunted by guilt and struggling to face his former life, Gabe plans to leave again—until a distress call comes in from a group stranded in the mountains. Determined to help, Gabe and Hal respond, believing it to be a routine rescue mission.

Unbeknownst to them, the call is a trap. The stranded group is actually a gang of international criminals led by Eric Qualen, a ruthless mastermind who has hijacked a U.S. Treasury plane. The plane crashed in the mountains, scattering three suitcases filled with millions of dollars. Unable to retrieve the money themselves due to the harsh terrain, the criminals lure rescue rangers to assist them.
Gabe and Hal are forced at gunpoint to help locate the missing suitcases. As they navigate the dangerous mountain environment, Gabe begins to fight back, using his climbing skills and knowledge of the terrain to outmaneuver the criminals. The harsh conditions—icy cliffs, avalanches, and narrow ledges—become as deadly as the armed enemies.
Separated from the group, Gabe launches a one-man effort to stop the criminals while trying to protect Hal and his girlfriend Jessie. One by one, he confronts and eliminates members of the gang through a combination of strategy, courage, and survival instincts.

The tension builds toward a final confrontation between Gabe and Qualen atop a dangerous mountain peak. In a brutal struggle, Gabe manages to defeat Qualen, sending him falling to his death and ending the threat.
With the criminals stopped and the stolen money recovered, Gabe faces his past. By saving lives and confronting danger once again, he begins to overcome the guilt that drove him away.
Cliffhanger blends high-altitude action with emotional redemption, showcasing both the physical danger of the mountains and the internal struggle of a man seeking forgiveness. It remains one of the most intense action films of the 1990s, driven by suspense, survival, and personal courage.
