Plot Summary – Predator (1987):
Predator is a sci-fi action thriller directed by John McTiernan, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer, the leader of an elite military rescue team sent on a mission into the Central American jungle. The team includes skilled commandos: Mac, Blain, Poncho, Billy, and Hawkins, along with CIA agent Dillon (Carl Weathers), an old acquaintance of Dutch’s.
Their mission is to rescue hostages from guerrilla forces, but Dutch quickly suspects something isn’t right. After engaging the enemy in a violent firefight, they discover that the mission was a setup—there were no hostages, and Dillon used them to destroy a rebel outpost and retrieve sensitive information.
As they attempt to return to extraction, the soldiers begin to realize they’re being hunted—by something not human. At first, it’s just odd sightings, eerie noises, and skinned corpses hanging from trees. The unseen killer starts picking them off one by one, leaving behind bodies with surgical precision and disturbing ritualistic brutality.
They eventually glimpse their attacker: a nearly invisible creature that uses advanced cloaking technology. As paranoia and fear mount, the group lays traps and attempts to outmaneuver the predator, but the alien proves to be far more intelligent and deadly than anything they’ve faced. It uses thermal vision, superior weapons, and brutal tactics, seemingly killing for sport.
One by one, Dutch’s team is wiped out, leaving only him to face the alien. Wounded and alone, Dutch discovers the creature’s weakness—its reliance on heat vision. He covers himself in mud to mask his body heat and creates primitive traps to level the playing field.
In a brutal final confrontation, Dutch manages to injure the Predator and force it to remove its mask, revealing its monstrous, mandible-faced visage. With raw strength, cleverness, and willpower, Dutch defeats the creature. As a final act, the Predator activates a self-destruct device, laughing maniacally as it detonates, but Dutch escapes just in time.
