First Blood is the powerful beginning of the Rambo saga, centered on John Rambo, a former Green Beret and Vietnam War veteran struggling to reintegrate into civilian life. Quiet, disciplined, and deeply scarred by his past, Rambo drifts from town to town searching for connection—but finds rejection instead.

Arriving in the small town of Hope, Washington, Rambo is stopped by Sheriff Will Teasle, who views him as a threat simply because he is an outsider. Without committing any crime, Rambo is forced out of town and then arrested on a minor charge. At the police station, he is harassed and abused by deputies. This treatment triggers traumatic flashbacks of his time as a prisoner of war, where he endured torture.

Overwhelmed by instinct and trauma, Rambo fights back and escapes into the nearby mountains. What follows is a tense manhunt, as local police, state troopers, and eventually the National Guard attempt to capture him. Using his elite survival and combat skills, Rambo evades capture, setting traps and disabling his pursuers without intentionally killing them. His actions are defensive—he is trying to survive, not wage war.

As the situation escalates, Colonel Sam Trautman, Rambo’s former commanding officer, arrives. He warns the authorities that Rambo is highly trained in guerrilla warfare and survival, capable of defeating entire units if provoked. Despite this, the pursuit intensifies, leading to further destruction and chaos.

Cornered and pushed beyond his limits, Rambo returns to the town. He uses controlled force to disable infrastructure and confront the system that mistreated him. The situation reaches an emotional climax when Trautman finds Rambo and tries to calm him down.

In a raw and unforgettable moment, Rambo breaks down. He speaks about the horrors of war, the loss of his friends, and the alienation he faced upon returning home. His pain reveals the human cost of conflict—not just on the battlefield, but afterward.

Rambo ultimately surrenders peacefully.
