Get Carter (2000)
Get Carter (2000) is a stylish, modern remake of the 1971 British crime thriller. Sylvester Stallone stars as Jack Carter, a tough, icy-cold Las Vegas mob enforcer whose life changes when he returns home to investigate his brother’s mysterious death.
The story begins when Jack learns that his brother, Richie Carter, has been killed in what police claim was a drunk-driving accident. But Richie was not a heavy drinker, and several details of the crash seem suspicious. Feeling guilt for being absent from his family for so long, Jack travels to Seattle for the funeral, determined to find the truth.
Jack reconnects with his estranged family: his teenage niece Doreen, who struggles with Richie’s death, and Richie’s widow Gloria, who harbors resentment toward Jack for abandoning the family years earlier. Jack tries to make amends while secretly pursuing leads about Richie’s final days.

His investigation leads him into the city’s criminal underbelly. Jack soon uncovers evidence that Richie had become entangled with powerful and dangerous people — including Cliff Brumby, a wealthy nightclub owner, and Cyrus Paice, a ruthless computer tycoon involved in illegal activities. Jack also crosses paths with Jeremy Kinnear, a slick and manipulative intermediary who seems to know more than he admits.
As Jack follows the trail, he discovers that Richie’s death is tied to a disturbing criminal operation: young women, including Doreen’s friend, were being secretly filmed and exploited. When Richie stumbled onto this operation and tried to expose it, he became a target. His “accident” was staged to silence him.
Fueled by grief and rage, Jack returns to his old violent ways. He dismantles the conspiracy piece by piece, using brutal efficiency and mob-honed instincts. Each confrontation pushes him deeper into danger while drawing the attention of his Las Vegas boss, who wants Jack to return before he causes more trouble.
The tension escalates when the criminals retaliate, threatening Jack’s family. Realizing that the only way to protect them is to eliminate the threat completely, Jack wages a personal war against the men responsible. The climax erupts into a series of intense confrontations, culminating in Jack delivering justice to those who orchestrated his brother’s murder.
In the end, Jack takes down the entire operation — but the victory is bittersweet. He restores honor to his brother’s memory, protects his niece, and exposes the criminals, yet his violent path leaves him isolated, wounded, and far from redemption. Get Carter becomes a story of vengeance, guilt, and the cost of living by the code of the underworld.
